Enphase Gateway

The Enphase IQ Gateway (formerly called the Envoy) is a communications hub for Enphase microinverter solar systems. It sits inside the home and serves as the bridge between the rooftop microinverters and the outside world. The gateway communicates with each microinverter over the home’s existing AC power lines using power-line communication (PLC), collects production data, and forwards it to Enphase’s cloud-based Enlighten monitoring platform over the home’s internet connection. If the primary internet connection is unavailable, the gateway falls back to a built-in cellular modem to maintain reporting.

In addition to monitoring, the IQ Gateway enables remote firmware updates for microinverters and supports grid services features such as export limiting. It also measures whole-home energy consumption when paired with current transformers installed at the main electrical panel.
